Obituary

Our Michelago correspondent writes: The death occurred on Friday morning last at 2 o'clock of one of Michelago's oldest residents in the person of Mrs. Mary McTernan, wife of the late Thomas McTernan of Michelago. Deceased was 83 years of age at the time of her death, and for some time past had been residing at the home of her eldest son, William, of Margaret's Creek. Michelago. The sad news came as a shock to all as deceased had been ailing for only three days, and even her closest relations did not expect that the end was so near. On the eve of her death she was visited by Dr. Blackall, of Queanbeyan, who had slight hopes of her recovery. She was also visited by the Rev. Father O'Donoghoe and received from him the last rites of the church.

She was widely known, but for many years has led a quiet and retiring life, taking very little part in outdoor pleasures. But with her kind and motherly disposition she endeared herself to the heart of those who knew her. She was a member of the well known and highly respected Kelly family, and is survived by one brother, John, of " Mount Cassidy," Michelago, who is 85 years of age, and two sisters, Mrs. Orr, Michelago, 87 years old; and Mrs. James McTernan, of Victoria, 70 years of age. She also leaves to mourn their loss, two sons, William and' John, both of Michelago, and one daughter, Mrs. Hogan, ' Boorawa.' Two daughters and one son pre-deceased her. She leaves eighteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The funeral which took place at 3 o'clock on Saturday afternoon was evidence of the high esteem in which deceased was held, the cortege being as large as any ever seen in Michelago. People came from all parts of the district, and many from other centres to pay their last respects to their departed sister. The Rev. Father O'Donoghoe officiated at the graveside. Our deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family and relatives. [1]
