She was born on 05 Jul 1755 in a room above a small tavern in High Street in Brecon, Brecknockshire, Wales. Her father was Roger Kemble, the manager of the touring theatre company the Warwickshire Company of Comedians, and her mother was the actress, Sarah Ward, daughter of the comedian John Ward.
Sarah was the eldest sibling born into a theatrical family. Five of the 12 siblings and several grandchildren all became famous actors.
Sarah was the most famous of all her siblings. Acting was in her blood and, from an early age, she appeared on the stage in her father's shows. She became a renowned tragic actress of the 18th century and 19th century. She was considered one of the greatest ever Shakespearean actors, possibly the first female Hamlet, and “was not less than a goddess, or than a prophetess inspired by the gods” [1]
Sarah Kemble married about 1773 in Coventry, England to William Siddons.
Sarah Siddons died on 08 June 1831 in London and was interred at St.Mary's Cemetery in Paddington. Over 5,000 people attended her funeral to pay their tribute to one of Britain's greatest actresses. [2]
She died on 08 Jun 1831 in London, England. [3]
