Biography

George Alfred was born about 1840.[1].

George Alfred Kemp ... [2]

George and Elizabeth were married December 25, 1860 at St John of Jerusalem, England see: http://sharing.ancestry.ca/7110230?h=15a2c0&utm_campaign=bandido-webparts&utm_source=post-share-modal&utm_medium=copy-url The surname Kemp has been midread as Hemp - due to the old script.

This document also provides Elizabeth's father's name as James.

Death date uncertain - 1882 and possible as late as 1891

According to my Grandmother, Minnie Amelia Kemp his occupation was poulterer.

Of my grandmother's siblings I knew

1. Charles James Kemp - we called him Uncle Charlie - He married June 30 1900 see: http://sharing.ancestry.ca/7109467?h=395893&utm_campaign=bandido-webparts&utm_source=post-share-modal&utm_medium=copy-url In the 1901 Census England, Charles was a leather seller and book repairer - see: http://sharing.ancestry.ca/7109523?h=492044&utm_campaign=bandido-webparts&utm_source=post-share-modal&utm_medium=copy-url

He and Aunt Lily came to Canada with children, Harold and Doris - via Montreal on May 15 1910 The 1921 Census of Canada shows him living at 375 Rhodes Avenue, and working as a painter with an income of $1156. Harold died of bronchial pneumonia in 1924. Doris married James Alexander McEwan.

2. Martha (Aunt Pattie) - born Aug 1 1878 or 1879 - at age 2, 1881 England census she lived at 27 Wellesley Street, Mile End, London, She married David Williams, see: http://sharing.ancestry.ca/7109606?h=0f2396&utm_campaign=bandido-webparts&utm_source=post-share-modal&utm_medium=copy-url In the 1901 English census, David was a bricklayer, Martha, a wife and Minnie was a visitor and a suit machinist by trade. see: http://sharing.ancestry.ca/7109669?h=edf5e1&utm_campaign=bandido-webparts&utm_source=post-share-modal&utm_medium=copy-url Martha, David and daughter, Eunice came to Canada in 1905. She died in Scarborough Ontario December 8 1970.

3. William Kemp also came to Canada - He lived on Cavell St in Toronto with his wife Elizabeth Mariah Orien and three daughters. Constance, Kathleen and Doris. Connie and Kay never married - Doris married Fred Edwards and they raised one daughter, Joan. Edwin A did not immigrate - I believe he ran a petshop in London, and if I can verify this I have a picture of him in the shop. That's all she wrote!

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with George by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with George:

And my great great uncle making us if the same generation I think - nice to connect on FB!
*The original unsourced details in the profile for Sarah Kemp suggested she was born in 1860 and in Old Town, Middlesex like the children of George Kemp and Elizabeth Walker.
  • However I could not find a source to support a Sarah being part of this family but there does appear to be two families in England having children at the same time where the mother's maiden name is Walker and her married name is Kemp. Was the original information a guess or is there a source out there that can prove that they had a Sarah Kemp born in 1860?

I propose that Sarah Kemp is NOT a child of George Kemp and Elizabeth Walker but that she is the brother of Walter Kemp (birth record below).
