Biography

Elizabeth was born in 1860,^{[1] [2]} the daughter of Peter Kemp and Sophia Huxley.

In 1881 Elizabeth married James Metherell.^[3][4]

Elizabeth passed away in 1951,^{[5] [6]} age 91 years and is buried beside her husband James at Lower Portland General Cemetery.

MRS. ELIZABETH METHERELL,

The death took place on September 4 of Mrs. Elizabeth Metherell, of Pennant Hills, relict of the late James Metherell, of Lower Port land, who died in 1925.

The deceased was a native of Lower Portland, being the second youngest daughter of Peter and Sophia Kemp, and had reached the great age of 91 years. Her end was probably hastened from the effects of shock occasioned by the death of her eldest son, Raymond James Metherell, on August 3 last. It can be truthfully said , the late Mrs. Metherell was always held in high esteem by the community in which she lived, and her passing removes another of the dwind ling band of the old river identities.

The surviving members of her family are Herbert (Freeman's Reach), Arthur (Maroota) and Dolly (Pennant Hills). Of deceased's brothers and sisters, the only surviving member is Mrs. Edgar Lowe, of Ebenezer. One brother, Peter Kemp, achieved fame as an oarsman, and for several years held the title of world's champion sculler. The interment took place in the Lower Portland West cemetery, in the presence of a large number of mourners and sympathisers. ^[7]
