Services for Dorothy Kendrick Pearcy, concert pianist and former president of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the East Chapel of Hillcrest Mausoleum in Dallas. Mrs. Pearcy, 86, died of a heart attack Sunday at her Dallas home.
The Dallas native graduated from the Chicago Music College at 17 and received a graduate fellowship to the Juilliard School in New York. n 1927, she was given the Naumburg Chamber Music Award and toured as a concert pianist. She performed as a soloist with symphonies in Dallas, Philadelphia, New York and Boston for many years. Mrs. Pearcy returned in 1946 to Dallas, where she became involved with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League, serving as the president in 1964-66. For nearly 40 years, she served on executive committees for the J.B. Dealey Awards for Young Artists, sometimes serving as a judge for the competitions. She was also on an advisory committee that resulted in the creation of the Van Cliburn Piano Competition in Fort Worth, family members said. Mrs. Pearcy collected American antiques, opening Dorothy Pearcy Antiques on Fairmount Street in 1961. Later, she joined Manheim Galleries, where she was the assistant manager until 1974.
Survivors include a son, John Kendrick Pearcy of Dallas.
