He was probably the eldest son. He was in the Granville County Regiment, North Carolina Militia, on 8 Oct 1754, which shows he was over age 16 at the time. The tax lists of Granville show James as a tithable in 1755 in William Kendrick's family. He must have married during this same year, for John Kendrick, his eldest son, was appointed constable in his father's militia district in Chatham County, NC at the November Court 1777, showing that he was of age, and probably born in 1756, certainly not later than that date. Military

Military American Revolution War - Military: Revolutionary War (Captain Richard Coleman's Company) August 1778 Captain under Colonel Ambrose Ramsey Also active 1779-1781 Known battles: Briar Creek, Georgia.[2]

He was Captain, records show he where he was given rations for his company of soldiers. He was also paid for his service in war, mainly with land, as money was scarce but land was plentiful.[3]

Occupation - He had prominent career in Public Office in Chatham North Carolina being an adjustor and Assessor of that county[3]

The family moved to Washington County, Georgia in the 1790s. A 1796 grant was made to James Kendrick Sr. showing that his son, James Jr, had moved to Washington, GA by that date. This is the last mention of James. He probably died soon afterward, for his son Burwell Kendrick moved in 1798 to Montgomery, Georgia. [4]

DAR and Carolana.com sources claim that Captain Kendrick's service during the Revolutionary War was done in Chatham County. Is a date known when he moved from Granville County to Chatham County? If he was in Chatham County by 1775, the 1776 sticker should be changed. The verbiage for that would be "unit= Chatham County Regiment, North Carolina Militia, American Revolution."
