Gilbert (Kennedy) Kennedy First Lord Kennedy is a member of Clan Kennedy.

Gilbert was the son of James Kennedy and Mary Stewart[1]

He held the office of Keeper of the Castle of Lochdoun. He was created 1st Lord Kennedy [Scotland] c.March 1457.

In 1460, on the death of King James II, he was one of the six Regents of Scotland. He held the office of Constable of Stirling Castle in 1466.

He married, firstly, Catherine Maxwell, daughter of Herbert Maxwell, 1st Lord Maxwell,[2] and unknown daughter Herries, c.1440.[1][3] They had issue:

  1. John, 2nd Lord Kennedy,[2] born 12 October 1454, died between 24 July 1508 - 13 May 1509
  2. James, designed of Row. Thought to be the first Laird of Baltersan. Married Egidia Blair.[2]
  3. Alexander Kennedy.[2]
  4. Gilbert of Crochba, Provost of the Collegiate Church of Maybole, apparently no issue.[2]
  5. Robert Kennedy.[2]
  6. Walter Kennedy of Glentig, and parson of Douglas.[2]
  7. Katherine married Alexander Montgomery before 1459, grandson and heir of Alexander, first Lord Montgomery.[2]
  8. Marion, contracted 12 Apr 1459 to marry John Wallace, son and heir of William Wallace of Craigie, and on 20 Jan 1465 to marry James, eldest son of Robert Boyd. It does not appear that she married either man. [2]
  9. Agness, m. George Campbell.[4] (Not named in Scots Peerage.)

He married, secondly, Isabel Ogilvy, daughter of Sir Walter Ogilvy of Lintrathen, and Isabel Glen, after 1460.[1] They perhaps had issue,[1] although no children are named in Scots Peerage for this marriage:[2]

Gilbert Kennedy died after 6 March 1478/79.
