According their to marriage record, Thomas worked as a labourer (age 23), and his wife Ellen Tobin, (age 20) was a servant girl.
According to his death certificate, Thomas had 3 sons and 4 daughters.

Akaroa Mail and Banks Peninsula Advertiser, 5 February 1937, Page 2, EARLY PENINSULA DAYS is a newspaper article about Thomas's parents' life as early settlers of Akaroa. According to that article, they arrived in Wellington in 1840, moving to Akaroa in 1842, where Thomas's father (also Thomas) worked in the whaling industry.
