Biography

Research notes only not confirmed possibly arrived "Sea Park" "Sea Park" Captain T Spedding departed London 12/3/1855 and Plymouth 28/3/1855 arrived Port Adelaide 24/6/1855. There were 4 Kennedy immigrants on board: James 20 and Martha nee Crawford 22 from County Fermanagh bound for Victoria. There was William 22 and Mary 25 from County Tyrone. They were travelling together. Were they brother and sister or married? County Tyrone is at odds with Moyelmore County Monaghan. There is no death record for William Kennedy prior to 1858 when Mary married Charles. The listed age of Mary (presumably before departure) was 25. That indicates a birth year of 1830 (plus or minus one year depending on birth month) which coincides with the 1829 mentioned. Her death notice on 2 December 1907 lists her age at 73 years and 10 months indicating a birth February 1834. This would seem to discount the Mary Kennedy on the "Sea Park" "Glentanner" Captain B Bruce left Plymouth 23/8/55 arrived Port Adelaide 26/11/55 had 2 single female Kennedys. Elizabeth 20 servant from Kilkenny and Mary 23 servant from Kilkenny. That age does not correspond with the 1834 birth indicated in her death notice. Barque "Grand Trianon" Master Alfred Hayes from Birkenhead 23/3/55 Port Adelaide 10/6/55 Govt sponsored immigrants .Mary Kennedy Single female, farm servant, from Kilkenny, aged 22. This is closer to the Feb. 1834 birth date but not close enough.

Ship "Thomas Arbuthnot" Captain Richard Martin from Plymouth 9 June 1855 with 253 Govt. Immigrants. Mary Kennedy 20 servant from Kings County Ireland (now called Offalley). This is the closest so far (1835 birth year) The Barque "Elgin" from Liverpool 1/6/49 to Port Adelaide 10/9 1849 brought out 193 female orphans from the workhouses in Ireland. One was Mark Kennedy aged 19 from the workhouse at Clonmel Tipperary. But that age indicates a birth year 1830 which is 4 years too early. The "Trafalgar" sailed from Plymouth 18/3/1847 with 279 free immigrants arrived Port Adelaide 2/7/1847. Several Kennedy children including Mary but no ages listed. IGI (Family Search) list Mary Kennedy christened 24 Feb. 1834 at Askeaton Limerick Ireland Father John Kennedy, Mother Brigid Naughten, also Mary Kennedy christened 28 Feb. 1834 at Askeaton Limerick Ireland Father Cors Kennedy Mother Johanna Kinnerk.

1855 Daughter of George Kennedy and Jane Hughes.?
