Biography

John, the oldest son of Murdoch, was married to Catherine Gillis of South West Margaree, with issue: John, Angus, Alexander and Murdoch. Jessie, Annie, Katie and Mary. The first two named sons, John and Angus, were drowned together while skating on the ice of, Loch Ban, Jessie died young, Annie was married to John D. McFarlane of South West Margaree, Katie was married to Dan N. McLellan of South West Road, Mary died unmarried in Boston. The son Alexander with a large family, occupies the homestead, and Murdoch is doing business at Kinloch. The Alexander of this family died recently.^[1]

John Kennedy and Catherine Gillis married on 15 Jul 1864 in Broad Cove, Inverness, Nova Scotia. ^[2]

John Kennedy of Loch Ban died in Kenloch on Nov 14, 1912. He was 85 years of age and a widower at this time.^[3] Cause of death was pneumonia.

Census Records

Murdoch Kennady (82) is on the 1871 census with wife Jessie (60) and several of their adult children; Michael (30), Catherine (35), Ann (24), and Angus (26). Along with them is a John Campbell (17) possibly a grandson or relative of some sort.^[4] Prior to Murdoch is son John (41) with wife Catherine (35) and their children; Mary (6), Jannet (4), Ann (2) and John (6 months). Following on the census is son Donald (34) with wife Margaret (25) and one son Murdoch (1).

Micheal Kennedy (40) is on the 1881 census with wife Mary (30) and their children; Donald (4), Murdoch (3), and Mary (2). With them is his father Murdoch (95), perhaps a niece(?) Ann (25), and a labourer John Campbell (20).^[5] Just prior to Micheal is brother Angus (38) with wife Matilda (24) and 2 children; Mary (1) and Donald (1 mo). Following Micheal is brother John (60, should be 50?) wife Kate (40) and their family; Jessie (14), Ann (12), John (11), Angus (9), Alexander (8), Kate (5), Murdoch (4) and Mary (1).
