Biography

We believe that due to the Civil War in the United States this Kennedy (in the South) decided to change his name to Canada to remove association with northern Kennedys.

Daniel Canada married Lavina Keith on 24 June 1833 in Wayne County, Kentucky. Daniel and his elder brother John Canada (Kennedy) were married on the same day. (John married Mary Black.)

In the 1860 census, Daniel Canady is listed as age 45, residing in Wayne County, Kentucky; also listed on this census record (all with the last name spelled as "Canady") are wife Levinia (sic), age 42; and children Lucinda (age 20), Ruthe (age 18), David (age 15), John (age 11), George (age 7), and Elizabeth (age 3). Birth places for all members of this family was given as Kentucky.

Daniel Canada is listed in the 1870 U.S. Census in District 6 of Wayne County, Kentucky. His age in this census record is given as 56, born in Kentucky, with an approximate birth year of either 1813 or 1814. Also listed in this census are his wife, Vina A Canada (age 53), and children Lucinda (age 30), George (age 17), Ann Eliza (age 14), and Claiborn (age 18).

In 1880, Daniel was listed in Mill Springs, Wayne County, Kentucky with his wife Viney, both in their 60s. In this census, Daniel's parents were recorded as born in Kentucky, as was he. [1] This census explains the appearance of Claiborn in the 1870 census. His relationship to Daniel was given as "Nephew" in 1880, and it was spelled "Clabren". The child, John B., age 5, was listed as a grandson, and Lucinda, age 39, was recorded as widowed.
