Services for Joseph Granville Kennedy of 729 N Garland, a retired Memphis Police Department Inspector, will be at 2:00 pm tomorrow at Memphis Funeral Home with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. 1

Mr Kennedy, who was 73, died at 5:00 am yesterday at St Joseph Hospital after an apparent heart attack. 1

He was born in Carroll County, Tenn., and joined the police force in 1911. When he retired in 1945, he had served 33 years and 3 months. 1

After his retirement he served as a special officer for the National Bank of Commerce until he was 65, then worked part time as a special officer until his death. 1

Mr Kennedy was a member of Speedway Baptist Church and the Peace Officers Association. He was a Shriner and a member of the Eastern Star. 1

He leaves his wife, Mrs Tommie P Kennedy of the Garland address; a son, Dr Joseph W Kennedy of 1873 Glenview; two stepsons, Thomas E Neely of 2949 Curtis and James a Neely Jr of Houston, Texas; a stepdaughter, Mrs JR Spivey, of Fairfax, VA; two brothers, Connie Kennedy of Dayton, Texas, and Jim Kennedy of Harrisville, MO, and a sister, Mrs Sallie Brown of Tuscaloosa, LA. 1
