Biography

William Howard Kennedy (Howard) was the son of William Kennedy, an early pioneer of Silver Creek Township, and his second wife Rose Anna Watts, from Tara, Ontario (born Glasgow, Scotland). William and his first wife Mary Coulter, came to Manitoba from Ontario in 1888, likely with other Scottish settlers from the Ottawa Valley (Perth County), who opened up the Silver Creek District beginning in 1832. William Sr. built a house and farmed on the NE 1/2 20-20-27, near the Pelly Trail. While raised as Anglicans in Ontario, William and his first wife attended the Presbyterian Church in Silverton, where they sang in the choir. William died in 1923 and Rose in 1959. Howard was the one of 10 children born to William and Rose Kennedy (5 children were born to William's first wife Mary Coulter). Howard worked as a lineman with the Manitoba Telephone Company. He married Katherine McManus of Russell and they moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario. Article on the William Kennedy Family submitted by Lil R. Kennedy, Howard's sister, to the Silver Creek History Book. [2] After the death of his first wife Catherine McManus, Howard married Norma Dunlop, of Thunder Bay. Following Norma's death, he married a third time, to Dorothy May Edmonds.[3]

Death: William Howard Kennedy, died Lions Gate Bridge, North Vancouver, 19 June, 1980 of bronchio-pneumonia due to lung cancer. He also had arteriosclerosis. Howard was married to Dorothy May Edmonds, who completed his death certificate. They were living at 1205-2555 Whitely Court, North Vancouver. Howard was retired, but had been a telephone service man. He was born 6 June 1904 in Silver Creek, Manitoba, to William Kennedy and Ann Watt, both born Scotland. Howard was cremated on 25 June, 1980 at North Shore Crematorium, Vancouver. [4]

William Howard Kennedy died at age 76. He was living at 1205-2555 Whitely Court, North Vancouver; died in hospital 19 June, 1980. Born in Manitoba, came to Fort William, Ontario in 1943. Member of the IBEW Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge and Masonic Order; Employed by the City of Fort William; retired from the telephone division and moved to Vancouver. Survived by wife Dorothy, his third wife. Predeceased by his first wife Catherine McManus in 1949 and several brothers. Survived by his children with Catherine: Shirley (Richard Malo of Thunder Bay), Sheila (Ronald Dakin of Terrace Bay). Sharron (Robert Owen of Thunder Bay). Memorial service held in Thunder Bay.[5]
