Hugh Kennedy (1809-1889) came to Australia as a convict. His wife Jane Fox (1823-1913) who he married in Limerick in 1841 followed.
Hugh was arrested on Break& Enter Charges in 1848 along with William Reidy & James Ryan. Tried & convicted at Limerick Assizes 10.07.1848. Member of 'Black Shirt Gang' Sentenced to 7 years transportation. Served part of his sentence at Dublin Castle, Spike Island, before finally being transported from Cork on board the Lord Dalhousie 14.08.1852. Ticket of Leave 02.05.1854. Conditional pardon 03.04.1855. CON 33/109, CON 14/45, CON 18/57.
24 Mar 1863 or 1865 : Arrested and convicted for stealing 2 white shirts and other items in Stanley, Tasmania and sentenced to 6 months hard labour (Geriatric).
