Margaret was born in 1943. She grew up on a farm in Bogard Township near Urich, Henry Co., Missouri. She attended first grade at a rural one-room school called Enterprise, which consolidated with the Urich School District the following year. She was graduated from Urich High School in 1961, president and valedictorian of her class. While growing up, Margaret took part in 4-H, completing 6 years of clothing projects, as well as cooking and flower arranging. She was enrolled in Junior Leadership several years, where she learned public speaking. Margaret also participated in the many activities of the farm, working in the garden, canning, butchering, plowing, disking, cultivating, mowing and raking hay and milking cows. She especially liked riding their horse, Thunder, a black former show horse.
After graduation, Margaret immediately went to work for AT&T in Kansas City, Missouri. She roomed with her school friends, Kathryn Hudson and Bettie Smith, until her fiance, George Kerns returned from his Army Reserve training, They were married Sep. 21, 1961, and moved to Harrisonville, Cass Co., Missouri, where he was employed by the Missouri Highway Department in the Construction department. Late in 1962 he was transferred to Clinton, Henry Co., Missouri, and they moved there, Margaret leaving AT&T. They purchased a house in Clinton, and Margaret worked for EBASCO Services a short time, then for the county's University Extension Center for about 3 years. She then worked for The Clinton Eye as a reporter for 6 months, after which she was employed by the USDA Soil Conservation Servivce, River Basin Survey as a clerk-stenographer for over a year. She was next employed as County Office Clerk with Farmers Home Adminiatration, also part of USDA.
In 1965 she and George purchased a farm from her parents, the place she was born. They built a house on their farm near Urich, Henry Co., MO, in 1975, and Margaret again changed jobs, working as a bookkeeper-secretary for the John Deere dealership in Clinton, B & N Machinery. In June 1980, George and Margaret were divorced for a short time. They were married a second time on Sep. 21, 1980 at Urich, Henry Co., MO. Margaret retired from the active work force and pursued her hobby of genealogy for a few years. She then took care of her mother, Mary Kepner during her last illness and death, then continued caring for her father, Glenn Kepner. She also helped her uncle and aunt, Lee and Hazel Kepner, during their final years. Margaret enjoyed gardening, sewing, miniatures, reading and cake decorating when her health permitted. She suffers from fibromyalgia, which has stopped her active hobbies. She still works on genealogy using her computer, and still reads her favorites, history, biographies, adventure, historical fiction, and mysteries. She also still enjoys listening to music, her favoriate performer being Harry Bellafonte, although she enjoys about all types of music.

I am still working on US Southern Colonists. Right now I am researching in North Carolina, on several lines there. I have made suggestions for some people with similar surnames for Randolph County, NC. I hope to be able to add some more profiles soon.
Itβs time for our annual Ireland Project check-in! Please respond within the next two weeks to let me know:
If you are happy with the team youβre on or if youβd like to make a change. It is now required that all members with an Ireland project badge work on at least one of the projectβs team(s), so if youβve not yet signed up please do so in your reply to this check-in.
What you think the project is doing well, and what (if any) changes you would like to see us make? Are there any teams you would like to become more active in?
Would you be interested in helping to work on an Ireland Project newsletter?
Please give us some feedback on the use of google group and discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you donβt use either of them, what is the best way for us to ensure you receive project communications? If you would like to join us on either one, just let us know in your response and we will get you signed up.
Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we donβt hear from you within two weeks, we will assume you are no longer interested in participating in the Ireland Project, and your badge will be removed. If you wish to reapply for membership later, we will be happy to have you back. Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!
I am sorry, but I will need to resign from the Ireland Project. Due to my age and health, I can no longer work on very many things, and some have to go. I will continue to enter my Irish relatives' profiles from the United States or the American Colonies as I run across them, but data entry is all I now have time for. I hope the project continues to do well.
Thank you for your participation with Team Virginia in the January 2022 Connect-A-Thon. You helped bring Team Virginia to an amazing 2nd place finish. We could not have done it without you! This year's Thon members added over 85,000k new Profiles to the Global Shared Tree!!
Margaret (Kepner) Kerns participated with The Virginia Connectors during the 2022 Connect-a-Thon, and added 6 connections.
This is the semi-annual polling for the US Southern Colonies Project. This check-in with members is to see if you have been active in the last six months in this project?

I look forward to hearing from you.. Many thanks,
Mary, Project Coordinator, - Membership US Southern Colonies Project
As a brief reply, since my computer is giving me trouble, I will say that I have been very active in the past six months. I received Club 100 badges in June 2021, July 2021, August 2021, November 2021 and December 2021. Not all of these were for Southern Colonists, but most of them were. I will reply in full as soon as I can get my computer working right again.
Remember, work at your own page, make sure if you make a new profile you have at least one good source and a brief bio narrative. You can return later and add more info, pictures etc after the challenge is over. (and check for any errors you may have accidentally made.

Thank you for explaining the difference between Southern Colonies and Southern Pioneers. I have many of both groups. Right now I am working hard on my Southern Colonies people. I hope I will be of some help.

Really hoping you will!
Good evening Team Missouri team mate! Just wanted to quickly touch base with you. The event starts this Friday morning at 8 AM Eastern time and ends 8 AM Monday morning.
Hello and welcome to the William Penn and Early Pennsylvania Settlers Project. At the project home page you can find useful information about the project:
Cont... The ONLY problem with "Find-a-Grave" is that SOME (not all, or even a majority) of the profile managers refuse to add information to their managed profiles even when you provide the source materials. And WikiTree doesn't "discourage" Find-a-Grave, it is simply not considered as reliable if the information there isn't as sourced.
Another thing you must remember is, even Tombstones, Censuses, Marriage, Birth, and Death materials contain mistakes. So NONE are above reproach, and subject to question. So, are we to not allow ANY of them? God forbid! Sourcing and referencing can be a balancing act, and much of the time I provide caveats (noted) to the profiles to reflect this.
I wasn't offended, Margaret. I was correcting the assumptions you made on the profiles that you edited. Also, I apologize for the tardy reply, as I have been greatly busy with research, and I also had recent surgery.
First, I agree that "Census records are easily available at most larger libraries for free."... But they are not always. This is why I post for each reference, as many sources as I can find (Find-a-Grave, Ancestry, Family Tree, etc...) so-as-to make available to as many as possible. I have found that posting such abbreviated sources as " Source: #S114" not only of no help but actually lends the novice researcher no actual "Source/Reverence" because there is nothing there to enlighten them. This is why I add actual links to as many sources and sources sites as possible.
Hello Margaret, I was looking at the pending merge between Elizabeth Oglesby and Alice Oglesby. Are you sure those two must be merged, because they are appear to be born 4 years apart and Elizabeth and Alice are really different names... You explained everything in your merge comment (thank you for that) except this difference in names. Just checking before hitting the button, no worries.
Are you sure you have the correct Arthur Neal Cornett (http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cornett-516) ... According to the source records provided at the profile, he was born December 12, 1830
