Biography

James Rexroad Kern, son of Aaron Kern, was born May 27, 1874, in Vermilion Grove, Vermilion, Illinois, United States.[1]

In 1910, James and Alice Kern were farming at Kechi in Sedgwick County, Kansas. They had two children at home: Clara (3) born in Illinois and Hugh Dayton (1) born in Kansas. Also in residence was Alice's sister, Luella (29).[2]

In 1918 James Rexroad Kern was 44 years old and farming at Redfield, Arkansas. He gave Alice Kern as next-of-kin.[3]

In 1930 James and Alice were farming near Simpson Township in Grant County, Colorado. They had two children at home: Joe H (19) born in Kansas and Minnie E (16) born in Colorado. Census indicates the couple had been 29 when married ... putting date of marriage about 1904.[4]

James R Kern was born in 1874 at Vermilion Grove to Aaron Kern. A carpenter by trade he died at the age of 84 at his home on Wayne Ave in Indianapolis in 1959. He had lived there 7 years. A widower, informant was his son, Joe Kern of the same address.[1] He was buried at Vermillion Grove Cemetery.[5]

Research Notes

Death certificate indicates James a widower, but his (first) wife, Alice Davies died in 1961 and is identified as divorced. Appears there may be a second marriage, but no record found Thompson-40998 16:36, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
