Bettejane was born December 23, 1920 in Ames, Iowa[1] and was the daughter of .Horace Kern and Gladys Ricketts

Bettejane grew up in Ames, Iowa. lived at 515 6th Street Ames in 1943, 815 North Ave Marshfield, Wood, Wisconsin in 1949, 2027 Roseland Ave Royal Oak, Michigan in 1958, and 3555 Carol Lane Northbrook, Illinois in 1961.

She went to school at Ames HS Class of 1939 and matriculated from Iowa State University in 1943 where she majored in household equipment. She was a technical engineer for General Electric in Schenectady, New York until her enlistment in 1943,[[1]]

Service dates 23 August 1943 to 22 August 1946 according to U.S., Department of Veterans Affairs BIRLS Death File, 1850-2010.

Pvt. Bettejane Kern of 515 Sixth St went to basic WAC training at Daytona Florida, October 7, 1943

December 1943 received instruction in driving at the Motor Transport school in Daytona Beach, Florida. Daughter of Pvt. Gladys Kern stationed in Baltimore with Signal Corps. She was then assigned to Pocatello, Idaho as a recruiting officer. While stationed at Ogden Air Technical Service Command Hill Field, Utah, she was promoted to Corporal while working as a electrician on aircraft.

According to World War II Compensation Board she was an Air Force WAC date of entry September 25, 1943 in Albany, New York and separated December 13, 1945. honorably. Service number A-210679. Received $280

Discharged from Army on 12 December 1945 as a Corporal to home address 515 Sixth St Ames, Iowa, BJ married Judd Thompson on May 5, 1945 in Ogden, Utah and after a few days in San Francisco, she sailed on the S.S. Lurline with "Judd" "Tommy" Thompson on May 11, 1946 to Honolulu, arriving May 15th. Judd was employed at Trader Vics.

It was 2000 when Bettejane passed away from stomach cancer. She was cremated.
