Biography

Brownie was a daughter of George Philip Kern and Annie Jane Mason. She married Walter F. Dent in 1929. They divorced in 1941.

Brownie enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps in 1942. She was 1st Lt posted at the 67th General Hospital, European Theater. She was discharged in 1945.

She married Harry E. Burkholder in 1947. He passed away in 1953. She married Marion L. Sutton in 1953. Brownie died in 1974.[1]

WINCHESTER, VA., Jan. 9 - Walter F. Dent, son of William Dent, Philadelphia, and Miss Brownie Kern, daughter of George P. Kern, near here, were married January 7 in Washington by the Rev. Mark Depp, pastor of Calvary Methodist Episcopal Church, it was announced last night upon their return. Both are graduates of Handley High School, and the bride is also a graduate nurse of Winchester Memorial Hospital. They will live here.[7]

Anecdote

Brownie was married 3 times. She was married to Dent, Burkholder, and Sutton. She was a Registered Nurse. According to Esther Lamp Kern, she was able to add together four columns of figures by running her fingers down the columns. All done in her head.[11]
