Obituary

SAUER, Virginia Norene (age 80) passed away June 27, 2008 at her Hill-Ray residence in Colfax, WA after a short, but intense battle with cancer. She was born October 12, 1927 in Palouse, WA to Virgil & Elsie Couchman Kerns.

Virginia attended school in Newport, WA and graduated from High School in Priest River, ID. She then graduated from Cheney Normal School with her Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching. Virginia taught at the Martha Washington Elementary School for 3 years and then at the Jennings Elementary School in Colfax for another 3 years. She married Harold Sauer on August 9, 1953 in Colfax, WA. Virginia then went to work for the Colfax-Pullman Credit Bureau for 52 years as a co-manager and operated the Manor Lodge Motel for over 19 years. She was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church for over 58 years and the Friends of the Whitman Co. Library. Virginia enjoyed gardening, reading, singing with her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved people, especially children.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Harold Sauer at their home in Colfax; two daughters, Margo Taylor & her husband, John of Boise, ID and Sylvia McKnight of Colfax; 4 grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Robert & Marj Kerns of Puyallup, WA; three sisters and their husbands, Barbara & Evan Peterson of Priest River, WA, JoAnn Nacke of Moxee, WA and Carolyn & Stanley Shields of Coeur d’Alene, ID as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law, Fred Nacke and 2 sisters-in-law, Joy and Oleta Kerns.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 1 PM at the First Baptist Church in Colfax, WA, with Pastor Lynn Nelson officiating. A reception will follow at Hill-Ray in Colfax. The family suggests memorials be made to the Plymouth Congregational Church, Friends of Whitman Co. Library or to the Friends of Whitman Co. Hospice.
