Robert was the son of Oliver Allen Kerr and Catherine Ann Barnes of Nelson.
Oliver Kerr married on 14 June 1916 at St Peters Church, Nelson to Catherine Ann Barnes. He worked as a Baker for T Hawkesworth, Richmond. Oliver Kerr served in WWI. [1]
Robert Oliver Manssen Kerr, also known as Bob was employed as a Driver in the Nelson district.
Robert enlisted during WWII, serial no. 69084, rank Private, posted with Infantry, 8th Brigade Gp. Robert embarked overseas in 1941 with the 2nd NZEF and served with the 34th Battalion.
Postwar, he married on 13 November 1943 at Nelson to Freda Annie Stobie. Freda was the eldest daughter and second child of Geoffrey JD Stobie and Eliza Annie Stent.
They settled at Annesbrook and Robert worked as a farm labourer. Four children were born during their marriage.
Robert Oliver Manssen Kerr died age 80 and is buried at Marsden Cemetery. RSA SECTION, BLK ASHES PLOT 362.[2]
The name Manssen is verified through NZ Archives and cemetery records as the correct spelling.
