Biography

Maggie Jane was born in 1889 in Ballystrudder, Islandmagee, County Antrim, Ireland, the daughter of John Kerr, a labourer who was living in the Scotch Quarter, Carrickfergus, and Martha Haveron. Her birth was registered by Jane Haveron of Mullaghdoo, Islandmagee.[1]

Note

Note: In 1891 Mary was born and 1899 the children were taken away by the 'state' because their father John Kerr was not able to take care of them. Both Margaret and Mary Kerr were in the 1901 census in England (Pulloxhill) then they were sent to Canada as home children.

Margaret was a homechild, sent to canada in 1901 by the British Government/Barnardo scheme. She was taken away from her father John Kerr after her mother Martha Haveron died. Both Maggie 12 and her younger sister Mary Annie 9 lived in Pulloxhill England until they were sent to Ontario Canada where they were promptly separated. When Maggie was allowed to leave, she went to work for a doctor in Alameda Saskatchewan where she met William Preston Davis who was also a home child and trained as a blacksmith.
