William Ker succeeded under a family arrangement to the estates in the county of Fife of his mother's family, and assumed the surname and arms of Kirkaldy.[1]
William was still alive in January 1595, but died before 13 January 1598-99.[2][1]
William married (contract 14 February 1586-87) Elizabeth Lyon, daughter of John Lyon, Lord Glamis, Lord High Chancellor of Scotland. [1]

Kerr-2106 and Kirkcaldy-33 are not ready to be merged because: individuals are obviously the same, however there is some difference in key dates, so it needs to be determined which is correct.
I set out to prove that Benjamin Carr was a son of this William. My research proved that he is not. Benjamin may be the son of a William Carr who married Mary Ann Clifford, but that is not this William.
I have just talked to Brian David Kerr who is trying to trace his ancestors, and on familysearch.org and Ancestor, he can't find any tie in, but describes family stories of the left handed Kerrs who helped Mary Queen of Scots. The story goes that the Kerrs in the area of Jedburgh Scotland built her a house there, and even built a left handed staircase to get the advantage over adversaries. Does anyone know of this line? They have been in Michigan for the last few generations, but seem to dead end.
interesting note. james v died in 1542 and sir john lost his castle. sir john born 1500? 1529 would be logically for thomas to be born but william probable a latter date. i'm working on it.
Just a heads up there is another profile, definitely same people imo.
