Our primary source for the birth date of Elias Ketcham comes from the proving of his father Losee's Will in Dec of 1806
[1].
Elias and family appear in the 1820 Census for Bath, N.Y. as does Simon Jacobus
just down the road
[2]. (Elias' son William Ketcham would grow up to marry Simons' daughter Jane Jacobus.)
The 1830 Census shows the family with at least 8 children in the house
[3]
Elias died just 3 short months before the 1840 Census began and by then his wife Hannah Eleanor (Smith) assumes head of household and oldest son William is also captured as head of own household
[4].
Elias' burial and headstone in Mount Washington Cemetery, Urbana, Steuben, New York indicate his birth year as one year later than in his father's will
[5].
