Biography

Samuel was born in 1736. He passed away in 1776. [1]

From the handwritten record of Orra Scott Kidder (Kidder-414) in 1900, with information credited to Edwin R. Healy (Healy-666), who was likely Samuel's great-grandson:

Samuel Kidder, son of [Richard Kidder] b. Feb. 8 1734 at Dudley. Married Lara Corbin daughter of Elisha Corbin she born Sept. 14 1740. The worth name of Corbin has been perpetuated by several namesakes in subsequent generations of the Kidder Family. Samuel owned and lived upon a small farm in Dudley where he reared a family of seven children all of whom grew to maturity. He was just 41 years old when the war Cry of Lexington moved our forefathers to defend their liberties. He with other patriots left his home to take up arms. Committing his farm to the care of his sons, he took part in the seige of Boston 1775 but in the following year 1776 returned to Dudley to die of the smallpox which he caught in the army. An odd story is told of his having tamed and then bitten a rattlesnake from the current supposition that biting a snake would preserve his teeth. It is said his teeth were sound untill his death. His widow afterward married Deacon Jonathan Bacon of Dudley and lived to the venerable age of 90 dying in her native town in 1830.

Kidder-949 and Kidder-85 appear to represent the same person because: I created Kidder-949 before I realized there was another one, and would appreciate it if we could merge these two. They are the same man, same birthday, death date.
