Biography

Cynthia was born in 1841, the child of Daniel Kiger and Elizabeth Kiger .

03 September 1850 Census Middle Twp., Hendricks Co., Indiana, 9 year-old Cynthia Kiger lived in the home of her parents, Daniel and Elizabeth Kiger. Her older siblings were Elizabeth, Sarah Ann and Hannah.

7 June 1860, Cynthia, aged 16, lived with her sisters, Elizabeth--25; Sarah--23; Hannah--20 and their parents. The two youngest girls had attended school within the past year. Note: Mary--18, is also in the home, but was not listed as one of the children in the family during the 1850 Census.

02 May 1864 she married Francis Asbury Huff in Hendricks County, Indiana. A couple weeks after their marriage, he departed to serve in the Civil War.

24 June 1870 Cynthia was 29. She and her husband, Asbury --26, a farm laborer were living on or next to her father's farm where Asbury worked. (Daniel Kiger's farm.) Their sons Elmer, William and Daniel live with them. Also a Susan Huff--age 7-- born in Indiana prior to their marriage, was in the household. She may have been left with them by a relative. Possibly by a recently widowed James Huff--(Asbury's father or brother.)

01 June 1880, Cynthia and Asbury lived in E. Half of Center Twp., Hendricks Co., Indiana with sons--Elmer, William and Fred and daughters, Elizabeth, Fannie and Laura. The girl, Susan, was no longer in the household.

07 September 1885, she filed for widow's benefits, according to the Civil War Pension record for Asbury Huff.

She passed away in 1889.
