Keziah Kilgo, which might be a variant of "Kilgore," married Simeon Stephens on 2 Jan 1808 in Johnston County, North Carolina [1]
In the 1820 census, [2] "Simian Stevens" is listed in Johnston County, North Carolina. By 1830, [3] he had moved the family to Morgan County Alabama, but is listed as "Simson Stephens."
Children of Simeon and Keziah Stephens
These are the children listed in Simeon's will [4]:
Elizabeth Stephens Ellis (wife of Ezekiel Ellis) [5] 1805-1850. She had died before her father's estate was settled, but her children were listed as heirs. They were Sarah Ellis Pitts, Ruffen Haywood Ellis, and John Ellis.
John A. Stephens 1810-1850. His daughter, Catharine Stephens was an heir in her grandfather's probate.
Susan Stephens Putman. 1811-1870. Her husband, William Putman, was administrator of Simeon Stephen's probate.
In April 1835, Keziah's husband died. [8] His estate was declared “insolvent and unable to pay this debts,” so Keziah was forced to sue to retain her dower land, but by the time the estate was settled it would appear that she had died. The probate began in December of 1835, and still wasn’t settled until 1851.
