Noah was functionally illiterate. After the death of his wife, Mary, all but one of his children were taken by social services. Noah was sent letters that the children were unattended to due to the death of his wife. He could not read so he did not realize his wife had died while he was away. Nor did he realize that the children were being adopted out. The Southeast Missourian Cape Girardeau MO June 25, 1973 Noah King, 112 North Boulevard, died Sunday morning in Southeast Missouri Hospital where he had been a patient for two weeks. He was 83 years old. Mr. King was born at Leemon, Dec. 12, 1889. He was employed by the Frisco Railroad for 32 years as a section hand and assistant foreman. Mr. King was a member of the brotherhood of railway maintenance, and a member of McClain's Chapel at Indian Creek. He was formerly married to Mary Pinkston, and in May 1937 he married Miss Amanda Craft. Surviving: his wife; eight sons, two daughters; brother, Harrison King, Jackson; 34 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, three daughters, three brothers and three sisters. Service will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 at New Bethel Baptist Church, east of Pocahontas, by the Rev. Glenn Cummings. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body is at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, and will be taken to the church as 12:30 Tuesday.
