In the name of god amen I Deborah Stopes of Woodcott within the parish of Southstoke in the county of Oxford Relict of James Stopes deceased being infirm in body but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding (Thanks be to god for the same) calling to mind the uncertainty of this transitory life and that all flesh must die do make publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in writing in one sheet f paper in manner and from following (that is to say) First and Principally I commend my soul to god hoping assuredly to be saved by the alone merits of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and my body I commit to the Earth its first original to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor hereinafter named and as for such Worldly state goods and chattels as god in mercy has bestowed upon me I order give & dispose thereof in manner following that is to say First of all I give and bequeath unto my daughter Deborah the wife of William Reade one guinea of good and lawful money of Great Britain I also give and bequeath unto my daughter Rebekah the wife of Abraham Richardson the sum of ten pounds of like lawful money I also give and bequeath unto my daughter Judith the sum of fifteen pounds of like lawful money and my Will is that the three several legacies before mentioned be paid by my Executor hereinafter named out of my personal estate hereinafter mentioned within twelve months next after my death All the rest & residue of my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or quality the same be and not by me hereinbefore disposed of (after and subject to the payment of all my just debts my funeral & testamentary charges and the above legacies) I give & bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my son James Stopes and I do hereby make constitute and appoint him my said son James Stopes full and sole executor of this my last Will and Testament Lastly I hereby revoke disannul and make void all former and other Will and Wills by me at any time heretofore made either by word or in writing and do publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament only In witness whereof I the said Deborah Stopes the Testatrix have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourteenth day of May in the fourth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third by the Grace of god off Great Britain France ad Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty four ~~ Deborah Stopes her mark ~~ signed sealed published and declared by the above named testatrix Deborah Stopes as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto in her presence at her request and the presence of each other ~~ Ann Ward, John Lydall junr.
