Biography

Sarah Caroline King was born November 3, 1837 to Stephen King and "Polly"Mary Garrison Watts King in Georgia.[1] [2]

Sarah was reported to be 12 in the 1850 census, the oldest child of Stephen and "Polly" Mary Garrison Watts King. They lived in Paulding County, Georgia. [3] Part of Paulding County was used to create Polk County, Georgia in 1851.

Sarah Caroline King married David Noah Hampton January 7, 1858 in Polk County, Georgia. [4] His military service is identified by a marker at his grave: PVT Company D, 14th Battalion, Light Artillery, Confederate States Army.

Their daughter, Frances Emily "Fannie" Hampton was born Nov. 19, 1860, in Polk County, Georgia. She married Lafayette G. Sutherlin. The family informant who provided information and signed Sarah's death certificate was L. Sutherlin.

Sarah King Hampton died March 2, 1920 in Polk County, Georgia. She was 82 years old. She was buried in Friendship Cemetery next to her husband. [1] Fannie and Lafayette Sutherlin are also buried there.
