Cyrus Bristol King was born on December 5, 1838 to William King and Mary Cooper in Upshur County, WV.

Cyrus went with his brother, John Rufus King, to Warm Springs, Virginia, where they both enlisted in the Confederate Army on the 17th of May, 1863. Their brother, Joshua James King fought for the Union. Cyrus and John never spoke to their brother, Joshua, again.

They both served until the end of the war. Cyrus Bristol was severely wounded at Gettysburg and was taken prisoner to Elmira Hospital in New York. He was exchanged in 1864, but remained in the South till the war was over. [1] He married Rachel Rebecca Matheney, May 1, 1878, lived near Buckhannon, West Virginia. They did not have children. He died on the 27th of February, 1920; his wife, on the 18th of November, 1905. [2]

Cyrus eventually recovered and was transferred to Chimborazo Hospital, Richmond, VA before being released after the end of the war.

Death and Burial

Cyrus passed away on February 27, 1920.[5]

He is buried at Swecker Cemetery near Roanoke, WV. [6][7]
