Nathan King was killed in battle in Vicksburg on 22 May 1863 during the Civil War. Oscar Lafayette King m ca 1869 was Nathans brother, and was with him when he was killed by a Yankee bullet and he promised Nathan he would care for Nathans family.

Note: hit in the middle of the forehead by a Yankee bullet, according to testimony by his brother-in-law Oscar, Natah was moving from postition to help another buddy on his gun[3]
