Biography

Elizabeth Kinsella was born in Dublin City, County Dublin, Ireland, about 1877[1] - 1878.[2]

Elizabeth was the daughter of Thomas Kinsella (Thomas Joseph Kinsella[3]) and Anne Doyle (Hanna Doyle[3]), who in 1900 lived at 10 Cumberland Street, Dublin.[4]

Elizabeth was the sister of:

  1. Anna Christina Kinsella, born at 31 Bride Street, Dublin, on 16 December 1877, and baptised by Father John Behan, on 21 December that year at St Nicholas Roman Catholic church, Dublin, sponsored by John Kinsella and Elizabeth Toomey;[5]
  2. John Thomas Kinsella, born at 45 Fitzwilliam Square, Dublin, in 1881, and baptised in that year at St Andrew Roman Catholic church, Dublin, sponsored by Thomas and Letitia Stoat;[6]
  3. Hanna Kinsella, born at 45 Fitzwilliam Square, Dublin, in 1883, and baptised in that year at St Andrew Roman Catholic church, Dublin, sponsored by Laurence Keogh and Julia Dalton;[3]
  4. Mary Josephine Kinsella, born at 41 Fitzwilliam Square, Dublin, in 1885, and baptised in that year at St Andrew Roman Catholic church, Dublin, sponsored by Teresa Halpin;[7]
  5. Ellen Gertruare Kinsella, born at 9 Quinnus Lane, Dublin, in 1887, and baptised in that year at St Andrew Roman Catholic church, Dublin, sponsored by Michael and Mary Halpin;[8]
  6. Thomas Joseph Kinsella, born at 2 Quinns Lane, Dublin, in 1889, and baptised in that year at St Andrew Roman Catholic church, Dublin, sponsored by William Kenny and Kenny Honoragh;[8]

On 5 November 1900, Elizabeth Kinsella of 27 Lr Gloucester Street, Dublin, married Lewis Cassidy of 16 Thomas Davis Street, Dublin, in a Roman Catholic service at Saint Mary's Pro Cathedral, Dublin.[4] Lewis was the son of Patrick Cassidy and Esther Byrne of County Wicklow.[4]

When the 1901 Census of Ireland was taken on 31 March, at house 9.1 in Wood Quay Street, Wood Quay District Electoral Division, South Dublin Poor Law Union, St John's Parish, Dublin City, County Dublin, were Elizabeth Cassidy, aged 23, born in Dublin City, a shopkeeper; her husband, Lewis Cassidy, aged 26, born in co Wicklow, a labourer, head of his family; and Ellen Kinsella, Lewis' unmarried sister-in-law, aged 13, born in Dublin City, who attended school; all three were Roman Catholics and could read and write.[2]

When the 1911 Census of Ireland was taken on 1 April, the Residents of house 16.1 in Berkeley Road, West Side, Inn's Quay District Electoral Division, North Dublin Poor Law Union, St George Parish, College Green Division, Dublin City, County Dublin, were the Roman Catholic family of Elizabeth Cassidy, aged 34, born in Dublin City, and her husband, Lewis Cassidy, aged 36, head of the family, a Distillers Foreman, born in County Wicklow, both of whom could read and write; they had been married for 10 years, and had six children of whom five had survived, all born in Dublin City, and lived with them, namely:[1]

  1. daughter Johannah Cassidy, aged 8, attended school, could read and write;
  2. son Lewis Cassidy, aged 7, attended school, could read and write;
  3. son Thomas Cassidy, aged 5, attended school, couldn't read;
  4. son John Cassidy, aged 3, attended school, couldn't read;
  5. son William Cassidy, aged 1 1/2, couldn't read;
