Biography

Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" Kirby was born in June 14, 1856 in Reading, Berks, Pennsylvania to John and Sarah Kirby.

The US Census of 1860 shows Sarah to be living in her parents' household in Spruce Ward, Reading, Berks, Pennsylvania: John Kerby (43), Sarah Kerby (36), Clara J. Kerby (16), Mary A. Kerby (12), John H. Kerby (8), Sarah E. Kerby (4) and Hannah E. Kerby (2) - all born in Pennsylvania. [1]

The US Census of 1870 shows the family to be living in Reading, Berks, Pennsylvania: John Kirby (52), Sarah Kirby (46), Clara J. Kirby (26), Mary A. Kirby (20), John H. Kirby (18), Sarah E. Kirby (14), Hannah E. Kirby (12) and Ida V. Kirby (9) - all for in Pennsylvania. [2]

On July 27, 1876 in Reading, Berks, Pennsylvania, Sarah E. Kirby (20) married William H. Ellis (32) a clergyman who was born in Greene Co., Pennsylvania and residing in Curwensville, [Clearfield,] Pennsylvania. The ceremony was officiated by A.H. Sembower.[3]

Per census info William and Sarah had the following children: Irene C., Blanche H., Jessie E., William S., Rachel G and Leon G. [4] [5] One child did not show up on listed census info: John Kirby Ellis (1883-1884), [6]

She died November 3, 1906 at the age of 49-50 in Scottdale, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania and was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Uniontown, Fayette, Pennsylvania. [7]
