The powerful Kirkham family lived at Blagdon (Paignton, near Torbay), in the county of Devon, since the reign of King Edward I (1272 - 1307 CE). Thomas was, however, born at another family estate in Bicton, on the other side of the Exe River, also in Devonshire. Thomas' son George Kirkham was a Member of Parliament in the 16th Century.[1]
Thomas Kirkham, born 1504, was the son and heir of Sir John Kirkham.[2]
