He died in 1837, his estate being appraised on 27 Nov 1837 in Edgefield, SC. Warren Kirkland was administrator.
No marriage record of Eleanor and John has been located. The estate records of John fail to identify his wife. However, Eleanor Kirkland was an active buyer at the sale of John's personal property. Her purchases included most of the furniture and cooking utensils, items in which a widow would have an interest. One Elinor Kirkland appears on the 1840 Barnwell, SC census after John's death. She was 60-70 years old and resided alone. The 1850 Orangeburg, SC census has an Ellen Kirkland, age 81, in the household of Warren Kirkland. Warren was the administrator of the estate of John Kirkland and is assumed to have been his son. [1]
