Obituary

Funeral Services for Hazel M. Johnson, 87, will be Friday, January 8th at the Oakesdale Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Erik Buhl will officiate. Burial follows at the Oakesdale Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson died Tuesday afternoon January 5, 2010 of pneumonia at the Colfax Whitman Hospital. Born October 25, 1922 at Addy Washington to Harry B. and Lydia (Poffenroth) Klaveano she attended schools at Chewelah, Garfield, Endicott, and graduated from Oakesdale High School in 1941. After graduation she worked at the Davenport Hotel and then as a governess. She met Vern L. Johnson from Minnesota when he was stationed at Fort George Wright. They were married at Marshall Michigan June 29, 1944. After Vern’s discharge they made their home in Oakesdale. Their occupation was farming until Vern’s death in 1981. Hazel was a member of the Pine Creek Homemakers Club, and an active member in the Oakesdale Presbyterian Church and Sunday school. Hazel and Vern had one child Colleen. The family enjoyed traveling and visiting relatives. Hazel’s life was centered around family and friends. In her retirement years she cared for her grandchildren and continued to travel making one trip to Europe. Hazel was surround by love and she could bring a smile to anyone she met. She is survived by her daughter Colleen Rose, Oakesdale, her grandchildren Christopher Rose and Ann Rose, Spokane and one great granddaughter Katrina Rose, two sisters Mildred Keeney of Spokane and Kayrol Kay King of Gainesville, Texas, a nephew/brother Richard Lohman of Oakesdale, also numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters Martha Bane and Margaret Llewellyn and her husband Vern L. Johnson. Memorials may be made to the Oakesdale Presbyterian Church or to donor’s choice.
