Biography

Sophie Klevatt was born July 5, 1907^[1] in St Joseph, Buchanan, Missouri.^[2] She was the daughter of Samuel Klevitsky and Rachel Malkin, Ukrainian, Russia immigrants. Her father died when she was just a year old. At age 2, she was in her mother Rachel's home in St. Joseph, Bucanan, Missouri, along with her siblings, Sam-8, Rebecca-5, Solomon-4, and Sylvia-1.^[3] Her mother remarried, Terry Velensky by 1920. She was in her mother and Terry Velensky's home in kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri at age 12.^[4]

She married Jerry Katz on November 10, 1927 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. They had 2 children.

2. Arthur Howard Katz (1934-1987)

Sophie (age 32) and Jerry (age abt. 35) lived in Bethany Bethany Twp., Harrison County, Missouri in 1935-1940. She worked as a Saleslady for a General Store and he was the Proprietor of it.^[5]

She passed away at the age of 95, on February 3, 2002, in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri,^[1] and was buried in the Sheffield Cemetery there.^[2]
