Biography

Michael was born on 5 October 1712 in Kirchardt, Sinshim, Baden, Germany to Georg & Veronica Klein. He was christened the next day.[1]

He migrated to America about 1727 with his brother Georg. [2] He married Dorothea (possibly Zelchin), probably in Lancaster County about 1740. [3]The couple had fourteen children.

In 1749, he was granted a patent for 137 acres in Lancaster County.[4]

Michael served in the Revolutionary War in Capt. Joseph Wright's Company, Battalion of Lancaster County PA.[5] [6]

Michael passed away about 1781, after he had written a will, but before it was executed. [4] His wife Dorothy was named administrator of his estate. [2][4]

In 1786, his children sold Michael's land in Derry Township to their brother, Jacob and he was to pay Dorothea an annual amount in lieu of dower.[7]

RESEARCH NOTES The family of Michael Klein listed in the Lancaster Mennonite Vital Records lists George as the first child, and no Anna. All of the other children are listed on the record, though not in exactly the same order.
