Moses Knapp was a son of Nicholas Knapp, born possibly about 1645 at Stamford, Connecticut. He married Abigail Westcott about 1669.[1][2] The date of Moses and Abigail's marriage is uncertain, but it was before January 4, 1669/70 when he receipted in the name of his wife, her share in her father's estate.[3]
According to one source, Moses and Abigail had the following known children.[2] (Other sources have a different set of children and will be discussed separately.)
There are so many problems with this profile. I cannot find any evidence that Moses married Elizabeth (Unknown). My research indicates there were four daughters from the marriage with Abigail: Lydia, Abigail, Hannah, and Sarah. [4]
Children of Moses Knapp and Abigail Westcott are: Lydia Knapp, born 1670 in Stamford, CT; died 09 February 1709/10 in Stamford, CT.; Abigail Knapp, born Abt. 1671 in Stamford, CT; died 08 February 1706/07 in Stamford, CT.,. Hannah Knapp, born Abt. 1672 in Stamford, CT; died Aft. 1720 in Greenwich, CT, Sarah Knapp, born Abt. 1674 in Stamford, CT; died 20 November 1717 in Stamford, CT.
Also from [4]: Early Genealogies claim that Moses and Abigail had three additional sons and a daughter, e.g., Israel, Jonas & Moses, and Mary. Current research indicates that Moses & Abigail had daughters only as shown in this report, based on a 14 Feb 1712/13 Deed [Stamford, CT - Deeds, Vol "B":185], in which Moses bonds his sons-in-law, Thomas Pennoyer, Nathaniel Cross and Samuel Husted "to maintain their father & mother-in-law for their lifetime". John Crissey was not considered in this Deed as his wife, Abigail, had died prior to this time and he had remarried. There are no records that would indicate a male in this family and is further proven by the fact that, had there been (a) male offspring living in 1712/13, by law, he would have established a "heir of right" to the estate of Moses & Abigail. There are no records extant that would prove otherwise. Simply put, Moses, no doubt, would have bonded (a) son in lieu of his sons-in-law, were he to have had such (a) son. Samuel Husted, the remaining son-in-law, requested relief from the 1712/13 Deed in 1725/26, thus indicating that Moses and Abigail were both deceased at that time. That Moses lived to be 110 years old as stated in earlier writings on this family can be labeled nothing more than an "atrocious genealogical blunder" including the claim that he died at Peekskill, NY!!
There is an interesting citation called "Supplement to Nicholas Knapp Genealogy" that states there was a Moses Knapp who was the son of Moses and Abigail (born at Stamford or Greenwich about 1655, died about 1756). This Moses married Elizabeth Ogden. He moved to White Plains to be with his father in 1738.[5]
In the Knap-Knapp Family Genealogy, compiled by Charles Ruggles Knapp, he shows that Moses, son of Nicholas Knapp, married Abigail Westcott and had children: Abigail, Israel, Jonah, Mary, Moses, Lydia. The author provides
no source citations for the children's information. [6]Of the children, Abigail and Lydia are shown with the same spouses as stated by Spencer Mead. The author also shows Moses (son of Nicholas) born in 1645, dying in 1756 (death date is obviously incorrect, but is often found in unsourced genealogies.)

It will be a bit more work to handle the non-children properly. They shouldn’t just be removed without noting on their profiles their disputed parents. I also want to give the PM a chance to respond to my marking their parents uncertain on their individual children’s profiles

[JMS- This story also named four daughters born between 1670 and 1674, so a second marriage in 1670 seems unlikely.]
