Joshua married on 9 June 1657 in Stamford, Connecticut to Hannah Close.[1][4] She was a daughter of Goodman Close (d by 1653) and his wife, Elizabeth (d 4 Sept 1656 Stamford), who married as her 2nd, to George Stuckey.[5][3]
After Joshua died, Hannah later married to John Bowers.[1]
Profession and Positions
Joshua and Hannah moved to Greenwich in 1663, and Joshua was made Proprietor at Greenwich on 2 May 1664. He was admitted at Greenwich as a freeman in 1669.
Joshua was probably a weaver by trade indicated by his father willing him half of the gears to his loom.
Joshua was one of two persons who made the bargain with the Indians when Bedford Parish was bought from them. The agreement between the Indians and the Stamford Colony was witnessed by Joshua Knapp and David Waterbury and signed by seven Indian Chiefs dated 12-23-1680.
He was one of the Committee of Sixteen to confer about the dividing line between Greenwich and Rye. Joshua bought land in Rye in 1681.
Death and Legacy
Joshua died 27 Oct 1684 [6]in Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut at age 49.[1] leaving a “good estate.”[3] Inventory of his estate in 1684 places its value at 54 pounds.[7]
His inventory is recorded on 6 December 1684. [6] The children and their ages are listed after the inventory.
