DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Benjamin by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Benjamin:
I wish to compliment all persons involved in cleaning up this conundrum Knowles vs. Knight. This is the foundation of Wikitree. I am still curious as to the Knowles Profile. Where and how did it get here. Where there is smoke usually there is a fire somewhere.
Yes this needs to be accomplished immediately to correct a growing problem. Especially since Benjamins father was David Knight not another Benjamin Knowles.
I believe I added all of Hannah 'Knowles' kids and their trees don't go any further ... so, don't think any Knowles trees would be effected by the name change.
I agree they are the same person, I just think the Knight surname is well established, and the Knowles surname is from one source. I have no objection to merging Knowles into Knight, but it may mess up some Knowles trees.
Knowles-2492 and Knight-1423 ... whatever, but they are the same person. Norwich is 14 miles from Rhode Island! They have the same wife and the three common kids all have equal birth dates with the other set. Knowles only has one wife because the only source I had only listed Hannah. Knowles has no descendents entered because I had no source on him except the Jewetts of Amereica book.
Knowles-2492 and Knight-1423 do not represent the same person because: Knowles is from Rhode Island, Knight is from Connecticut. Too far apart. We know a lot about Benjamin Knight but not much about Benjamin Knowles. I think the data we have on Knight is well researches and more correct. The problem may be the wife -- Knight had two wives, Knowles had one. More likely the name is Knight and not Knowles. We know nothing about the Knowles children and everything about the Knights. If we knew more about Hannah Jewett, I would be more tempted to agree. A better approach may be to just eliminate Benjamin Knowles and all his descendants.
