Biography

John Knight immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

John Knight was born about May 1626 (baptized 14 May) in England, and died 27 Feb 1677/8 in Newbury (Essex) Massachusetts. He married Bathsheba Ingersoll, daughter of Richard Ingersoll and Agnes Langley. Bathsheba was born about 1629 in Bedfordshire, England, and died 24 Oct 1705 in Newbury.[1][2][3]

He is the child of John Knight and Elizabeth Vincent

John and Bathsheba had nine children (John, Joseph, Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah, Hannah, Richard, Benjamin, Isaac). Note that they had daughter Hannah born 22 Mar 1661/62 who died 30 Jul 1664 followed by another Hannah born 30 Aug 1664 per Newbury vital records.[4]

John Jr. was made a constable in 1654, a selectman in 1668 and was a sergeant in the militia in 1666 and ensign in 1669.[5]

In 1663 Bathsheba testified against John’s uncle, Richard Knight and his friend Hugh March who sat down for a game of cards at Uncle Richard’s home. Playing cards was, of course, very much against the Puritan moral code. [6]

We now have 3 daughters named Hannah as the daughter of John Knight-141, 2 with the same birth date (given the double-year) so let's not add any more until we have the existing ones straightened out.

A message was sent to the WT user who attached the latest Hannah asking for a primary source showing parentage, the closest is the one who died as an infant per Savage which would make the other two incorrect. I'll work on this.

Anderson (GM IV pgs 210-211) shows Elizabeth Vincent as the mother of John Knight.
