Biography

Rachael Anderson was born in 1753.[citation needed]

John Knight and Rachael Anderson were married on 9 January 1774, in St. David's Episcopal Church,[1] Cheraws District, South Carolina, (now in Cheraw) by the Reverend Evan Pugh.[2][3]

She died in 1844, in Hillsborough County, Florida.[citation needed]

Research Notes

Place Creation

  • Surry County, Virginia, was created in 1652 from James City County.
  • Sussex County, Virginia, was created on 28 Nov 1753 from Surry County.

All of Albemarle Parish was then (1753) located in Sussex County.

Name

There was no "Rachel Frances Anderson". There was Rachel Anderson who married John Knight of Sussex, and there was Frances Newman who married John's brother, Thomas.[7]

Birth

Rachel's birth does not appear in the Albermarle Parish Register.[8]

As her birth date is the same year Sussex County was created, the records of the Parish containing Surry County after 1753 should also be searched.

There are four Anderson families listed in the Albemarle Parish Register as well as Andersons in the Vestry Book. Sponsor names include: Stokes, Knight, Epps. These are presumably the origin of her birth place in family genealogies.

One of these entries is quite interesting, but incorrect in the abstract:[9]

At A Meeting of the Vestry of Albemarle Parish Easter Thursday At Sussex Courthouse April 2nd 1782.
To Tob'o. Levied for the use Alb'e Parish 132,000 a't 12/6.
d'o. Rev'd. W'm. Anderson £48.13.4

Unfortunately, it actually says Rev'd. W'm. Andrews.

Anderson-27291 and Anderson-1969 appear to represent the same person because: they share the exact same vital statistics.
