Genforum has: I am trying to prove an account book written by Nicholas Heinrich CRIST in 1738 is true. He states that he met Sir John Henry NOWLIN and his wife Anna Elizabeth TILLMAN when he came to the Colonies in 1738 and that he married their daughter Anna Catherine NOWLIN. He also states that John Henry NOWLIN and family died in April 1749 while floating down the river to visit his sick brother.
The following timeline will show some of the NOLAN, NOLAND, NOWLAND, NOLLAND etc, that were in the Patterson Creek northern Virginia area at that time. Do you have any connection to any of them or to John Henry NOWLIN?

This is probably close to our family: The History of Carlow County, Ireland,
by John Ryan: ?The O'Nuallains were princes of the Foharta, now the Barony of Forth in the County Carlow, Ireland. In pre-Norman days their chiefs held high office under the Kings of Leinster. In Irish, the name O'Nuallain means descendant of Nuallan, the word Nuallan means a shout or cry. The name was anglicised O'Nowlan, Nowlan, and Nolan. Tho this day, Nolan is among the forty most numerous names in Ireland.?
Ryan also states further in History of Carlow County Ireland, by John Ryan: ?After the rebellion of 1641-1662 had been suppressed (in which the Nowlans took sides with the Catholic party), the Nowlans lost a gread deal of their property which was included in the grant made to James Butler, Earl of Ormonde, Lt. General of the Protestant Forces. Due to the Irish Rebellion of 1641, most of the land belonging to the Nowlan family in Northern Ireand wsa seized by James Butler, the lieutenant general of the Protestant Forces. The family took this complaint to court but was rejected because one of the sons had participated in the revolution. Around 1700, at least 3 (possibly 5) of the Nowlan brothers came from Ireland to America.?
The Castle of Ballinrobe, in Northern Ireland, belonged to the Nowlan family. Perhaps the Barony of Forth.
History found in The Nowlin- Stone Genealogy by James Edmund Nowlin.
"HISTORY OF VIRGINIA" From the DAR office, Washington, DC, page 404: ?James Nowlan who was a native of Ireland, who was a zealous communicant of the Catholic Church and who lost his material possessions in Ireland through his participation in one of the numerous religious wars in that volatile island. In order to defray the expenses of his passage to America, he indentured himself for a prescribed period to the captain of the vessel which brought him to Virginia about the year 1700. In this colony, he was reindentured to a planter named Bryan Ward, of Pittsylvania Co. In the course of time, this sterling ancestor changed the spelling of his surname from the original Nowlan to the present form of Nowlin. He married Catherine, a daughter of Bryan Ward, above mentioned, and they became the parents of several children, one of whom, James II in turn grew to manhood, married and reared children, including a son to whom was given the name of Abraham. This Abraham Nowlin married Mildred Watkins, and their son, Captain Bryan Watkins Nowlin, the eldest in a family of eight children, maried Mary Spencer, the children of this union being as here designated: Virginia C. (Mrs. John P. Hughes), Marie E. (who became the wife of Captain S. H. Overton), John H., Julia, (died in infancy), Bryan Ward (died in infancy, and William C. (married to Virginia Watkins.?
