Birth

Grace was christened as Grace Knole on the 7th October 1649 in Aylesbeare, Devon. Her father was recorded as Michael Knole. It is probable that her birth was a week or two before that date. It should be noted that the family surname at that time was recorded as Knole.^[1][2]

Marriage

On the 26th December 1683 Grace married Richard Fley in Feniton, Devon, approximately 8 miles from where she was christened.^[3][4]

Research Notes

Note 1
A Michael Knol married a Rebekah Salter on the 17th January 1636 at St. Lawrence, Exeter, Devon, perhaps Grace's parents, but have been unable to prove a direct daughter-to-mother link between Grace and Rebekah (Salter) Knowles.^[5]

Note 2
Regarding Grace's apparent siblings, a Mychaell Knolls was christened on the 21st January 1637, and a Rebecca Knolls was christened on the 10th January 1640, both in Feniton, Devon, and both with a Mychaell Knolls as their father. A George Knowell was christened on the 26th March 1642 in Feniton with a Michell Knowell as his father.^[6][7][8]

Note 3
It seems possible that a Rebecca Flea, the daughter of a Richard Flea and Grace, christened on the 10th May 1685 in Topsham, Devon, might be another child of our Grace Knowles and her husband Richard Fley. Our couple had married in 1683 and their first child noted here in Wikitree, Grace Fley, wasn't born until 1689, a gap of 6 years. Furthermore, our Grace is shown as having a sister Rebecca Knowles and a mother Rebekah (Salter) Knowles, a repetition of the christian name. However, Topsham is 14 miles from Feniton, and Rebecca's surname was spelt Flea.^[9]
