Biography

Thomas W Knowles was born in February 1853 to Thomas Knowles and Mary Ann Roberts Knowles in Key West, Florida.

He married Margaret Pinder, daughter of John W Pinder and Elizabeth Sands Pinder of Cherokee Sound, Abaco, Bahamas, 5 January 1873 in Key West. The couple had children Mary Ophelia, Sarah, Thomas Milton, Julia, Nellie, Birdina, Daisy, Ruby and Theodore Knowles.

Thomas W Knowles died in Key West, Florida 3 February 1917 and is buried there with his wife.

The death record of Thomas W. Knowles b. 1851-3 states that he was the son of Thomas A. Knowles and Margaret Roberts. Margaret Roberts died ca. 1855.

Although the US of 1860 and 1870 census lists a Thomas W. Knowles who is clearly the same person as the Thomas W. Knowles who is mentioned above, the census lists Catherine (Spencer?) Knowles as if she was his mother. It seems likely that Thomas A, Knowles remarried and Catherine was the stepmother of Thomas .

Mary Phelia or Ophelia Knowles b. Florida, United States on Mar. 6, 1874 d.Dec. 9, 1958. married Welbourne Frances Adams (1869 - 1930) of Hope Town, Abaco. She may have been named for her aunt Phelia who seems to have died as a child.

Benson, Norman. "Some Benson Kinsmen with memoirs." Parthenon, Arkansas, 1982, pp 230 & 240. On p.230 the date which appears to be her DOD, 1/5/1873, appears on p.240 as date of marriage. That is shortly before her 17th birthday, which fits a marriage date. (Note: Randall Woodbury, see WikiTree Pinder-58.)
