Birth: Although most documents record his birthplace as Avondale, the certificate of his first marriage states that he was born in Newport (a little over 12 km from Avondale).

Son of Asa & Lavinia Knowles

Occupation: Mason, Mechanic Manning was a ship carpenter.

Religion: Baptist

Married Tryphenia Masters of Newport on September 24, 1871. She was 20; he was 23.

Married Nancy Ann Slack on July 11, 1895 in Colchester County. He was a widower at the time.

Census of Avondale, Hants. George M Knowles, age 53 (b. Jan 31, 1848; Baptist, mason) was living with his wife Nancy A. (46), and the their children: Clifford H (19), Jennie M (15), Hedley M (3), and Edward J (1)[1].

Death

George Manning Knowles died aged 69 in Scotch Village. Cause of death: Enlarged prostate, infection of the bladder. Length of illness: 6 months. Physician in attendance: J. Reid. Undertaker: Harvey Percy[2]. He was married, white, Baptist, a mason. Born in Avondale.

Burial

George Manning Knowles, born 31 Jan 1848, died 1 Dec 1916, and was buried in Scotch Village Century Cemetery, in Scotch Village, Hants[3].
