Thomas was born about 1807 in the Bahamas. His parents were reportedly William Edward Knowles, son of James Alexander Knowles, and Mary/Margaret Coomer.[1] However, a pedigree chart on Family Search has his parents as Daniel and Harriet Knowles.[2] No primary sources have yet been found to verify his parentage.
Thomas is listed as the husband of Mary (Thompson) Knowles and the father of Margaret (Knowles) Carey on Margaret's death certificate.[3]
There is a marriage record in the Bahamas Christ Church records on the Dolly Mae CD and the Dolly Mae web site[4] that has a John Knowles marrying Mary Thompson. Baptismal records indicate a daughter Margaret who later married William Carey. John and Thomas appear to be the same person. There were numerous John Thomas Knowles persons mentioned in the CD, so I think it is a safe assumption to view them as the same person.
