John (aka Thomas) was born in 1803. He was the son of Alexander Knowles and Nancy Unknown. The Dolly Mae records states he was of Long Island, Bahamas, and that his parents were as well. He was christened on 16 Dec 1805 .[1]
He married Hannah Elizabeth Prance.
John Thomas and Hannah were living in Monroe County in 1850, along with all five of their children. According to the census, John had a younger brother (whose name was illegible) and all children had been born in The Bahamas.[2]
In 1860, they were still living in Monroe County, Florida.[3][4]
They had four children, all born in the Bahamas:
