John's birthdate is uncertain. He was probably born between 1840 and 1850. According to a Knowles descendant and a Knowles family website, his parents were GEORGE ROBERT KNOWLES born November 01, 1805 in Long Island, Bahamas, and died 1873and MARY ANN BETHEL July19, 1828 in New Providence, Bahamas (Christ Church). She was born c 1810. John C Knowles is sometimes confused with his younger nephew (yes nephew) John Christopher "Jr." Knowles (Knowles-3801) who was born in 27 Sept 1857. Jr. was the son of Margaret Deal and Thomas Michael Knowles.
